Also if you're going for elite status, try to negotiate a first-class ticket, even if you have to wait an extra hour or so. Every time I have been bumped and moved into first, I have gotten full elite credit for the new booking class.

The only other international bump I can recall on UA was to Australia a few years ago, and I got two nights hotel (2200 departure so they covered up until flight time), and a $600 voucher. I'm not sure UA is going higher than $400 now, though.

I was bumped on an AirJamaica (Delta) flight from Curacao to Atlanta in Montego Bay, ... They even put me up at a Holiday Inn resort with an open bar and restaurant (though the food and drinks were bad)!!

Also stayed at that Holiday Inn in MoBay years ago and sorry to hear the food hasn't improved. Sent one of my underlings there on the next trip and she was robbed in her own hotel room.
