Is Lake Placid fun in the winter?
Heading up to Lake Placid in a couple weeks and wondering if it's a good time? We're going to spend one day at Whiteface skiing, which we're looking forward to, but wondering about other options for our stay. We've done Vermont a couple times and figured it's time to try something different for our annual winter weekend up north.
thanks,

There's a nice outdoor skating rink, sled-dog rides, and AFAIK the only bobsled rides in the U.S.
There's horseback riding in Keene Valley: Wilson's Livery and Stable at the Barkeater Inn, Alstead Road, Keene NY, 518-576-2221.
Lots of info at lakeplacid.com.
If you're driving down I-87, you may want to make a stop at Oscar's Smoke House in Warrensburg.

Although Ive only been there in the summer, I imagine the Olympic training facililties in Lake Placid must be in full swing there, and I remember even in summer they were doing some pretty cool stuff (skijumping onto an artificial surface, trick skiers going off ramps into pools for practice, etc.)...if its open in winter for visitors it must be quite a sight...
