waiting to be called for standby
Several times (on several different airlines)I requested to be placed on standby. The GA said she would call me when (and if) a seat was available. After watching most of the plane board, I finally approached the GA to ask if I have a seat. The general response is: "I have your boarding pass, I was waiting for you to pick it up." I did't want to be a "pest" so I waited; if they say they will call you why don't they?
Have others encountered this problem?

They've always called me by name or they've said "All standbys will get on - please come retrieve your boarding passes."
Usually it's a very last-minute thing, so I can understand that "I don't want to be a pest" feeling... You are just hanging out there, itching to ask them but not wanting to be so annoying that they "lose" your boarding pass.
Perhaps the agent made some announcement about standbys that you didn't hear?

Isn't Delta posting standy pax names (partial name) on those snazzy plasma displays at the gates? After I verify the flight info on the display, I never much pay attention to the names that show up there.
