I've been a very satisfied with Hartmann for about 10 years. I use my 22" rollaboard with suiter on every trip and it really holds up like a champ. Same goes for the brief/tote. Also have a big check-in bag and rolling garment bag - again, all in fantastic shape.

I prefer the access of Hartmann over that of Tumi - the zippers are placed differently and I find the Tumi approach gives less access.

The only improvement I'd wish for on the Hartmann would be some sort of alarm that would go off when I've left my luggage strap behind! I've been through about 8 now and just placed another order for about 5 spares.

For a gazzillion years, my family would buy my father a new suitcase for Christmas every year. He lugs manufacturing equipment with him all over the globe in checked baggage, which is very rough on the poor bags! We'd tried everything but each bag only had a 1 year or at best 2 year life (including hard sided aluminum and the like). Bought him a 26" Hartmann about 8 years ago and apart from a small trim repair, it's been in fine shape. Granted, it looks like hell due to the light color (beige) whereas my black bags look fantastic. He'll never consider any other manufacturer.

Customer service is also very good, even with the discounted purchases (from outlets and such). Though "seconds" don't have the same warranty as the others, their service is still very, very good.

Another vote for Tumi here. We have about 20 Tumi pieces from luggage to backpacks. I like their simple design and durability. Don't care for leather. All leather luggage looks kinda cheesy to me IMO.

Another vote for TUMI. I have many of their products, which makes me worry about them coming out with new designs-making mine obsolete .

My problem with the Hartmann rollaboard is that the little strap thing for holding the computer bag falls out if there is no load on it. As a result, the strap gets lost too easily. I am tired of buying replacements, especially since most luggage stores tell you to "contact the factory."

I want to love Briggs&Riley but they use rivets instead of bolts to hold the suitcase together, meaning that if it breaks on a trip (the strength of the warranty really doesn't help a heck of a lot if you are in Tokyo), the darn thing is much more difficult to get an emergency repair on.

Love them - have had a variety of Hartmanns for years - and as BingoSF knows, just purchased another one (if you ever get to LA, Savinar Luggage has discounts on all the main brands - better usually than the brands websites).

I've now had the Hartmann for 4.5 months and I'm very pleased. I notice a lot of people carrying Tumi and unfortunately those people I've seen with Tumi seem to be a little "stuck-up" or "affected".

i just bought a 22" victorinox rollaboard. can't wait to use it on my LHR/CPH trip in two weeks

I have a Tumi briefcase and I absolutely LOVE IT!!!! Use it every day, whether for travel or into the office and it's shown absolutely no wear so far. If I could justify buying a Tumi rollaboard (my TravelPro is only about 1 1/2 years old) I would do it in a heartbeat.

I have a Tumi briefcase which seems to age pretty fast. I have had to send it in 3 times for service. They have replaced it each time, but not having it for two weeks is annoying.

I love my B&R suitcase.

We own 3 TUMI and 1 Delsey TUMI does stand by it's warranty no matter where you buy it as long as it has been registered properly. Also am thinking about purchasing a Hartmann I seen on sale it looks really well built; am not familiar with their warranty ,good thing is that they're made here in the US.

Registering your Tumi is nice, but that process has no impact on the warranty requirements.
