Ryanair 'paying people to fly'

November 17, 2003
(11:45)
Ryanair is offering what is claims to be a world first in air travel by paying passengers Ł1 to travel.

The airline is offering free seats, as well as taking Ł1 off airport and government charges. It says the offer is available on all routes and end at midnight on Thursday :-)

good publicity, no doubt.

but i wonder if they have considered the impact on PAYING passengers when the seat next to them (which may otherwise have been empty) is occupied by someone PAID (or at least SUBSIDISED) to sit there.

It really isn't very different from FR's regular free seat offers - their regular pax are used to this sort of thing happening.

I presume the margin on the food and drink that they sell on board makes up for the fares?
