Security time at LAX
Looking to go to LAS for 7 days in November, if I go BA WT+ changing at LAX they want 6297 GBP
However if I go BA WT+ to LAX and then book my own flights to LAS they only want 1,237 GBP and I can get flights with America West for another 90 GBP.
I'm looking at leaving 3 hours between the BA flight into LAX and the onward connection and the same upon return.
Will this be long enough considering the security at US Airports these days and will we be able to collect our luggage and connect to the flights without having to go through security again or not ?
many thanks
Nigel

Yes. I would try and take the earlier BA flight as the later one coincides with many other 747 arrivals. You should be able to have your luggage tagged all the way to LAS. After immigration and customs just drop your luggage off at the connecting flight area and be on your way.
You will have to go through security again.

LAX is one of the best majors in the US when it comes to security lines. The airport is quite spread out so there are many lines. HP is a fair hike from the BA arrivals, but you should be able to get from arrivals, through security to your gate in well under an hour. Just leave those scissors at home, mate.
There is a bus which circles around the terminals if you have a lot of luggage or your beer gut is slowing you down.
