LAX is one of the best majors in the US when it comes to security lines. The airport is quite spread out so there are many lines. HP is a fair hike from the BA arrivals, but you should be able to get from arrivals, through security to your gate in well under an hour. Just leave those scissors at home, mate.

There is a bus which circles around the terminals if you have a lot of luggage or your beer gut is slowing you down.
