EXIT SEATS

I am flying from Ft.Laud. to JFK with an hour wait for the flight to Athens. Can I reserve the exit seat for the Athens flt. when arriving at Ft.Laud.? Arriving at the gate at JFK with only an hour, seats will be gone.

They will most likely be gone. You fail to mention your airline, whether you hold any status with them etc...

Try calling the airline and having a decent seat reserved.

I presume you are flying either AA or BA, can't speak for AA but on BA the "good" seats are held back for their own elite passengers, you might be lucky by performing an online checkin on their website 12 hours before the flight but chances of that seat being available are slim...

If you're flying Delta/Song the whole way (e.g. FLL-JFK-ATH), then you can try to snag an exit row seat when you check it at FLL. But if you are flying on Olympic from JFK-ATH, the operator of your domestic FLL-JFK flight will be unable to help. At any rate, it is doubtful that the exit seats on your transatlantic flight have not been gobbled up already. So take a good look at www.seatguru.com/ (if Delta is your carrier) to explore your alternatives. And welcome to FlyerTalk.

Thank you all.I am flying Delta with no "medals", although i flew their first flight from Montreal to Miami in the sixties(?). Delta ,in the past, will not give me the available exit seats for the connecting flights overseas from JFK.
This time, I have a 4hr.wait at JFK. I do not wish to take chances on missing the overseas flight. So I will see any gate agent and see what can be done to get the seats. Maybe they will blow me away as has happened before. (I left the sanitized area and went to the main check-in !!)
There are others who do what I do, hence the benefit of sophisticated answers. I am new on this great board.

A great place to check in the FlyerTalk Miles forum, under the airline you are taking. There lurk experts who know EVERYTHING about exit rows and you particular airline.

Welcome to FlyerTalk!

Problem with this: the gate agents don't show up until a little bit before the flight is scheduled to leave (1 hr in case of domestic flights - little longer for international). You'd be well advised to go to the international check-in counter and try to get a good seat there.

There are many gates with agents. I was referring to these agents checking in earlier flights, and asking them to save an exit seat on MY flight.

It's quite possible agents working other flights may be unwilling to help you. You could even be unlucky enough to get one who's having a bad day (or life) and deliberately disobliges by giving you a bad seat. (I'm not saying this is endemic to Delta, it could happen anywhere).

If you haven't yet posted in the Delta forum, by all means do so. The accumulated knowledge of the airline to be had there probably outstrips the accumulated knowledge at the airline itself.

Welcome to Flyertalk!

With my 3 years working as an AA Flight Attendant, I've never heard of this. Exit row is given to anyone who is willing to perform the functions listed on the card and assist in evacuation if necessary.

Delta allows you to reserve exit rows anytime you want no matter what your status is (at least domesticially, not sure about international, don't remember) so won't wait until you get to the airport, call them now and ask. If they were not on the map when you were picking your seats though, they are probably all gone already.
