Personally I think that all children should be check as baggage. I would rather pets fly in the cabin and everyone under 12 years old in the belly. Or maybe a seperate section for those with small children. Better yet, an entire airline just for families! Yea that is it!

I've tried to stay out of this for as long as I can, and will mostly stay out of the fray, but I think I was the only person who noticed this gem and was disgusted by it:
I don't know what I'd do if a complete stranger asked me to hold their child's soiled diaper. I'm flabbergasted just reading about it! I'm sorry, but that's going waaay too far in my book.

It's obvious that some posters here don't like travelling with children (or feel that their children are perfect).
Not everyone manages to reach such level of perfection. This topic quickly went from changing nappies in the middle seat to parents who let their kids cry.

Edited to add: By the way, I have no problem wih crying children.They don't endanger my health in any way. Feces in the seat next to me does.

It never ceases to amaze me how self-centered and oblivious some people are. Of course this doesn't just apply to parents (see prior AA thread about the gentlemen in first class who cut his nails during meal service) though they often seem to feel that the rules of good behavior don't apply to babies. Last I checked, babies don't change their own diapers.
Regardless of the health issues - and I have no doubt that one should be concerned about fecal matter entering the food chain via airlines seats -- I cannot fathom that anyone seriously believes it is acceptable to change a diaper on a seat in a plane full of strangers when you can walk 50 feet or less to the nearest lavatory.
To those that do, I ask:
(1) How would you feel if I urinate in a water bottle because I do not feel like walking to the bathroom?
(2) Would you object if my gf changes her tampon in her seat because cramps make it painful for her to walk to the bathroom?

Whatever was the thought process behind assuming that was a good idea is probably the same one that decides there is such a thing as so neatly changing a diaper I can neither see nor smell the foul material therein, nor be harmed by it. These are the same surfaces off which some of us elect to eat.

Wow - I was stunned to see 3 pages of threads on this.
First, I don't have kids. But my ex-fiance & a lot of my friends & family do, and we've talked re: kids & flying, so I have that background to work from.
Having said that I don't hate having kids on flights. We were all kids once on flights.
Having said that, unless a flight is way out from landing &/or the captain says you can't get up from your seat & your child really really has to go poo/pee & it would endanger their health not to do so, I see zero reason/justification for changing a diaper in the seat/aisle. That's what a bathroom is for!
To say otherwise is spurious, ill-mannered, uninformed & otherwise rude. And those folk I mentioned above agree.
And yes, I would say something (politely but firmly) if someone attempted to change a diaper next to me (other than under extenuating circumstances).
