AS 421 SMF-SEA on 12/2 was overbooked by 34 passengers when I checked in. Alaska was offering a free R/T coach ticket good anywhere AS flies; non-Sacramento pax were also given a night at the Doubletree Hotel near Arden Fair Mall.

The friendly check-in agent told me that "Alaska reservations does this to us EVERY YEAR". (Hmmm....I'll have to remember this!) And SMF-SEA was so overbooked for the next couple of days that some pax would roll over all the way to 12/5, collecting free tickets for each bump.

I didn't take the deal as I needed to be in SEA for a meeting the next morning and there were no other flights (on any carrier) available leaving SMF that night that I could be protected on.

Flew Delta from CVG to PHX on Monday. Took a bump from the 1:30 flight to the 4:30 flight, got delayed an extra hour and a half. Picked up $400 credit.

Flying NW on the Saturday before Thanksgiving (11/23) from Houston (IAH) to Seattle via MSP.

The IAH-MSP leg was overbooked. My party of 3 received $300 vouchers. Another group of 3 was prepared to be bumped, but wound up boarding at the last minute.

Note that they never made a general call for bump volunteers, as we (and I presume the other party) inquired at checkin about the possibility. So don't be afraid to ask!

Best of all...we were rebooked onto a CO nonstop and arrived in SEA 4 hours early!

If they were the last to check in-I guess it is only fair.

They made an extreme effort to get a VDB, at one point they said "We are willing to negotiate compensation" for anyone willing to give up a seat but no one bit.
