I don't work in the aviation industry, nor do I know as much about the industry as most of you, so let me ask, is it safe to fly Midwest Express? I will doing that soon, on an MD-11...

I've flown them before and never felt worried about it. Their seats are all leather and they are known for their chocolate chip cookies. YUM!

Not sure exactly why you would think that Midwest Express is NOT safe...they are required to meet the same safety guidelines as anyone else. AFAIK, they've been flying for 15 or 20 years. If their planes were falling out of the sky, I think we would have heard about it by now.

I don't know what their entire fleet consists of, but I am almost positive it doesn't include MD-11's. Lots of MD-80's, a few DC-9's, and I'm not sure what else. Nothing as large as the -11 though.

Actually, Midwest Express can be a very dangerous airline to fly if you are on a diet that doesn't allow champagne and chocolate chip cookies.

Are you referring to the FA strike or possible strike called CHAOS, which is a random (to us anyway) strike based on segments?

YX is Beertown's Hometown Airline, featuring "THE BEST CARE IN THE AIR" and is right up there with AlaskaAir as the best domestic carriers. Like AS, there was 1 crash about 15 years ago, but the overall safety record is excellant. Most longer flights are on MD-80s with 2x2 seating and 112-116 total seats.

Right now you need to be aware that the Flight Attendants' Union has been authorized to strike and is threatening "Pay Us or CHAOS" -Create Havoc Around Our System" by walking off of individual flights after passengers have been boarded. Management in MKE vows to have replacement FA's in place @MKE to take over any flight hit by CHAOS. YX isw also advertising for replacement FAs to be hired and trained immediately. This one could get messy before too long.

Although it's not saying much to be the "best airline," Midwest Express continually blows away competitors in any kind of ranking. For example, it was first in a Zagat survey.

I appreciate the responses - actually, it's an MD-88 on all four legs of the flight - I'm looking forward to flying on an airline with a good ranking - a new experience - an adventure

Please stop worrying so much about airline safety! Airlines are by far the safest form of transportation in the USA (the NYC subway might be a tie in terms of passenger miles or trips per crash, but no real-life trip includes both as an option).

Airlines based in Third World countries is where you can be choosy. But in the U.S., regardless of what Dateline NBC or Oprah might have to say, worrying about airline safety will kill you with a stroke or heart attack much sooner than a plane crash will.
