Please stop worrying so much about airline safety! Airlines are by far the safest form of transportation in the USA (the NYC subway might be a tie in terms of passenger miles or trips per crash, but no real-life trip includes both as an option).
Airlines based in Third World countries is where you can be choosy. But in the U.S., regardless of what Dateline NBC or Oprah might have to say, worrying about airline safety will kill you with a stroke or heart attack much sooner than a plane crash will.
