I recommend to post (and repost this time) these tips in FT Dining: Germany.

FT Dining can later serve much better as a Vademecum to look any tips up. If ever I search for dining tips I do it there - but unfortunately many posts will be lost somewhere (unknown) in other Foras.

Rudi:
In the last 100 days was only 1 (one) post in Dining: Germany. Here is the link to the Dining: Germany graveyard: http://www.flyertalk.com/dining/ftdi...umdisplay.cgi?

And "Rudi's" Switzerland? Nothing since 11/29/2001.

First visit to Munich?

It's not a resturaunt, but you should visit the Hoffbrau Haus while in Munich. It's a typical german beer garden. Polka music, giant steins of beer. Popular with the locals and tourists alike. Worth a look.

Fodors.com is a good fall back position when looking for places to eat around the world. Hopefully, this link will take you to the beginning of the Munich listings:

Hi,

tell me what type of restaurant you would like to visit, and I can write you some adresses.
One of my recent favourites is
Villa Flora, Hansastr. 44, www.villa-flora.net ... they have a pretty nice brunch.
Also be sure to walk at least once through the Hofbruhaus, thought you get better food and beer someplace else. But, Across the street is a Sushi-joint, all my friends currently swear on it.

What is a nice place to hang out an evening, especially when the weather is good and you can sit outside is the Zooziez. Great food, good Cocktails, normaly a great crowd, Wittelsbacherstr. 15, www.zooziez.de
Downtown is also the Prinz Myshkin, they have great vegetarian food, Hackenstr. 2 (just 2 Minutes from Marienplatz) www.prinzmyshkin.com

Drop me a mail when you look for something special, we used to try out a new restaurant every week, so we literaly ate our way through Munich

Had a wonderful traditional German meal at Paulaner on Im Tal (name of the street) which is in the pedestrian zone just east of the Marienplatz. I would check out the Hofbrauhaus for a beer and pretzel, but have dinner at Paulaner.

Definitely check out a biergarden (outside). I liked the Seahaus beirgarten in the Englisher Garten. This one is past the Chinese Tower biergarden but is a bit more picturesque.

I also liked a cafe on Theresestrasse (I think) called Cafe Puck. Its near the university.
