As far as Austria is concerned, I would recommend either St. Anton or (Hoch-Ober-Unter)Gurgl ski resorts. Also Neustift is quite famous here in Europe.

I don't know about the conditions there at the moment. Although most ski resorts in Austria are nice, I prefer the swiss resorts.

Muerz, thank you again for the Austrian info.

Today I noticed an excellent book: "Where to Ski and Snoboard Worldwide" The Reuters Guide edited by Chriss Gill and Dave Watts.
Helpful ratings of resorts from 11 different viewpoints. The only shortcoming noticed: No detailed discussion for Chile and Argentina where we hope to go this August.

I got back from Tahoe yesterday. Skied Heavenly on Friday. I'm wondering which Heavenly you skied, because the one I was at had the worst snow I've seen there in 5 years! It was like the ice I had growing up back on the east coast! Kirkwood and Alpine Meadows had better conditions though.
