FF Miles to Cuba

I am planning a trip to Cuba and would like to use my CO mile on Copa to go to Havana. They fly MEX-PTY-HAV. Can they issue the ticket and send it to a US address? I know it's a long shot but would they issue it MIA-PTY-HAV? Does anyone have experience with this?

CO would not be allowed to issue the ticket. UA used to have "misleading" info on the MX partner page regarding mileage needed for an award to Cuba. I inquired about the oddity and it no longer is there (as the award never really was available).

Even if you could do it, leaving a paper trail about your trip to HAV wouldn't be too smart.

There are folks on this board who have visited HAV illegally. Search for their posts and learn a ton.

From what I can tell, flying on a CO award ticket to Cancun and then paying $200 US Cash for a r/t to HAV might be your best bet. Other potential "jump off" points include NAS or YYZ.

You can also fly Air Jamaica to Havana
also Cubana used to have a weekly flight to Kington but I am not sure if they still do.
I am not sure but I believe you will get Delta miles on Air Jamaica.

My thoughts as well and c'mon how many miles would you be giving up? 1,000? Not worth it in my book.

I state this because you state you are from NV and I make the assumption you are a US citizen. If not, go for it!

I was assuming he wasn't a US citizen, or that he at least held dual citizenship somewhere.

Wonder if Cuba will ever be legally open to the average American.

Why don't you call COPA airlines directly and ask them? I doub't, however, that you will be able to purchase a ticket - whether for miles or cash - from the US to Cuba, even though you are making an intermediate stop in a third country.
If, however, you are travelling to Cuba with a license from the US government (and by the way, it is NOT illegal for a US citizen to TRAVEL to Cuba, it is illegal to SPEND MONEY there without a license. Many Americans - including Flyertalk members - have legally travelled to Cuba and spent money there), you should be able to buy a ticket from an authorized US travel agent or airline. There are even special charter flights from Miami.
See the US State Dept. travel sheet on Cuba at http://travel.state.gov/cuba.html

The federal government has been seriously talking about lifting the travel ban to Cuba. Ironically though, they've begun to clamp down on Americans visiting there illegaly. Until recently, they never really prosecuted any Americans going there. I live in South Florida now and have been interested in visiting Cuba. But I just assume wait until it becomes legal.
