I just found this thread after trying to compile a list of my own from lots of different sources. I don't think that there really exists a *definitive* list as these seem to vary by the FAA, by different airlines, by different travel agents, etc. This is the most thorough list that I have, but I've pretty much given up on having a perfect list, though corrections or additions were certainly still be appreciated...

(Note that where there's a *, the metro code can represent either a metro or a specific airport. Argh!)

BER - Berlin, Germany - SXF, THF, TXL
BHZ - Belo Horizonte, Brazil - CNF
BUE - Buenos Aires, Argentina - AEP, EZE
BGT - Baghdad, Iraq - SDA
BUH - Bucharest, Romania - OTP
CHI - Chicago, IL - CGX, MDW, ORD
DFW - Dallas, TX - DAL, DFW or DFW *
DTT - Detroit, MI - DET, DTW
GLA - Glasgow, Scotland - GLA, PIK or GLA *
HOU - Houston, TX - EFD, HOU, IAH or HOU *
JKT - Jakarta, Indonesia - CGK
KCK - Kansas City, KS - MCI
LON - London, England - LCY, LGW, LHR, LTN, STN
MFW - Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, FL - MIA, FLL, PBI

These lists are great! I'm just curious as to how HOU can be both Hobby AND all the metro Houston Airports.

If I use HOU at Orbitz, Expedia or Travleocity, will it search for fares at all the Metro airports or just Hobby?

Asking for HOU will give you HOU, IAH and EFD.

Actually at Travelocity in my fare watcher I spelled it out "Houston All Airports" I was mimicking what they already had for Washington and Chicago.

When I go back it tells me that Houston All Airports is QHO not HOU

Houston All Airports = QHO

If you have a PDA, go to www.memoware.com and you can download these lists for the entire planet, alphebetized by city and by code.

I don't know about the other reservations systems but on Apollo all the agent has to do is put a "." after an airport code to get the nearby airports in availability, so a request for availability SFO.IAD. would get availability for SFO/OAK/SJC to IAD/BWI/DCA (without needing to know any city codes).

It's nifty to see this old thread! I'm glad that some folks found it useful. I'll find some time soon to edit the list at the top to include all of the latest information and revisions.

Thanks!
