National ID???!!!!
Hi everyone:
Yesterday, I had to do the plane travel thing and what a chore. Everyone is so tense at the airport: the check-in personnel; the inspection team aka the 'dig-up' staffers; the airline crew; and myself. I watched the inspection lady look through my personal stuff and I felt violated even though I know that the search was (& is) justified. September 11th was so traumatic that of course we should do everything not to let it happen again... right!? But, suddenly the free world doesn't seem so free anymore. There is now a drag on movement.
Now I am reading about a strong call for a National ID:-

How much are we prepared to restrict our freedom? We should be careful not to be swept up in all this justified paranoia. Is a National ID really warranted? Can't it be abused too?
I feel that a National ID would not have done anything to change the course of events that conspired to create September 11th 2001. If we give away too much of our freedoms then the terrorists have won. The passport & driver's license are sufficient enough (Aren't these National IDs? Then there we have it... we need nothing more).
I guess they are talking about a National ID card that has a computerized data base where information is easily assessable in one swipe. Well, potentially nothing fills a plane up faster with 'suicide missionaries' than hackable computer systems- think about it. No thanks!

What a stupid idea. From the article:
That's interesting, the last time I bought a watch I didn't have to show photo ID.
How does the fact that there is already information on people justify making it even worse? Since there is already cocaine out there, should we all take up snorting? Sorry, I just don't get his logic.
