Please allow smoking somewhere in the terminal?

I smoke and know that it is a bad habit which offends and irritates many people. This note in no way tries to advocate that smoking is OK or good.
My usual tactic at DFW was to check in one hour before flight time at the ticket counter, and then to go stand outside until 30 minutes to takeoff. With the new rules this will not work.
My plan is to send DFW airport a letter requesting that a smokers section be set up somewhere in each terminal so that people can have a last puff shortly before takeoff.
My logic is as follows: Air travel is a combination of work (effort) and cost. Not being able to smoke adds to the work associated with travel (believe me non-smokers, nicotine is very addictive). I, and most other people, have an alternative. We can drive.
My November trip to Baton Rouge: Distance is 420 miles. Driving time door to door would be seven hours. Flying time would be one hour to airport, three hours of waiting, one hour of flying, and one hour after landing at BTR to hotel. I drive a Mercedes Benz and the car is an absoulte joy to drive on our world class Interstate highways.
How about it fellow FT'ers? Lets give puffers a break and get them to continue to fly short segments.

Mark:

The AC in Terminal A has a smoking lounge (as you would be airside anyway, you could hop the trAAin).

Other good reasons for joining the AC are really great shower facilities, a minimal exercise room, a music room, and somewhere civilized (did I really say that ) to wait during the long checkins and potential delays - AC membership seems good value to me - especially if you are out of DFW or ORD - and a smoker, like me.

Incidentally, recently there has been talk of nicotine withdrawal being blamed for some air-rage on long-haul flights (in addition to the obvious alcolol related incidents). I'm no expert (except to say first-hand that nicotine withdrawal can cause headaches, and other uncomfortable physical side effects), but some European airlines offer nicotine gum to smokers, maybe they are listening...

Thanks for the info yyz-den. Much appreciated. I never thought of the AC or of possibly buying some gum for myself.
I agree that many passengers must become irritable and grouchy due to wanting a cigarette and that this must contribute to bad behaviour on flights.
I've always enjoyed my visits to YYZ and in February while it was snowing I was probably the only person walking the streets at 5:00pm.... Of course, the locals were using your excellent underground tunnel systems to get around.

Sometimes I ask myself, if they can put a man on the moon, you think they could make a decently ventilted smoking room, instead of being so foul and disgusting that even us smokers gag and choke, when you can even find one?

Sometimes I think that would be a great I dea for a concession, like internet cafes- sell time in smoking booths in airports.

Narita always amazes me, the smoking areas are kept so clean and are well ventilated, and I've even seen workers cleaning the filters on the machines.
