Does this seem Fair?

I traveled on an Airlines from Boston to Miami. The cost of the ticket was over a $1,000.00. I needed to delay my return flight and they charged me an additional 100.00 because they said it was a "Deep Discounted" Ticket. In fact I did not even receive full mileage credit because of this discount.

Now I know normally I can go Boston to Miami for much less than 500.00 with no notice. This time my secretary booked it.

I asked for a refund of the 100.00 and they told me no. Mind you I am a Gold Status Member of this airlines. Would anyone else pursue this? If so how?

Your ticket will have fare rules. The rules will cover what change fees do or do not apply. Does it say that there's a change fee? If so, then don't bother arguing it. It doesn't matter if your ticket is $200 or $1000, go by the fare rules.

Personally, I wouldn't let your secretary book anymore tickets if I were you.

Welcome to FlyerTalk.

Parts of your story make no sense. The only round-trip fares between Boston and Miami that are >$1000 are B fares (3 days advance purchase, but completely changeable and refundable) and Y fares (same as B, except no advance purchase requirement).

So, even if you had a 'B' ticket, you could have changes the date of your flight, as long as the return was 3 days in advance.

I think you need to provide more details if you want any advice. It sounds like either you or your secretary does indeed have a work-related problem; at this point, I'm not sure we have enough information to decide exactly the nature of the problem.

I would tend to think that a deep discounted ticket from Boston to Miami would be considerlby less (say 8 or 10 times less) then 1,000.

There are specific fare rules with your booking class, if they say pay a fee then you have to pay it.

Where can I get a fare for 8 or 10 times (?)less than $1,000???? :-)

Honestly I did not get to into the Fare Rules as I did not expect any Deep Discounted Ticket to be over 1000.00. Normally a flight to Miami from Boston is about 500 last minute. Since 1000.00 was what I paid for the ticket just sounded wrong to be a restricted coach. I am just curious if people aggree with my annoyance that the Airlines would want to tack on another 100.00. My fault for not looking at the Class before hand. Actually I will have to wait for my statement to see what it was.

What airline is this? I looked up some AA fares.

What I found is that a Q fare is available even at the last minute for $440+tax roundtrip (pretty cheap for a non-stop at the last minute on AA!) This is non-refundable and has a $100 change fee.

I also found a Y fare for $876 one way. I didn't look for other booking classes, such as B.

So, if your ticket was around $1000, it might have been one half of a Q roundtrip plus a one way Y (220+876=1096). If the outbound trip was Y and the return trip was Q, then changing the return flight would be subject to Q rules, and that would result in a $100 fee. If the return trip is Y, then you could change the return trip with no fee.

The advance purchase requirement applies only to the outbound flight. Once you've taken the first flight, advance purchase restrictions don't apply to changes, even for the most deeply discounted fares.
