My vote goes to PIT. And then TOL (Toledo)(drive up to the terminal, no cops), except there are very limited flights there, but hey it's quiet, no lines, etc. Then:

CLT, BWI, CLE, DCA, PLN, SAN, TUS. Never been to DEN, but heard it's nice.

LGB is still the nicest. NCE used to be good til they moved the rental car facility over by T2. GVA is still very nice and of course well organized. The new HKG has the best lounge facilities in the world.

Wait a minute. Haven't we done this before? Twice?

LGB? LGB is a 100'x200' box from 1941. True, the terminal has a certain je ne sais quoi. It has a sentimental quality that harkens back to a time when commercial flying was a new and exciting experience. But I submit these qualities can be found in greater abundance in places like the original Marine Air Terminal (LGA) and DCA. If small boxes are your 'thing', and as a Modernist they are for me, then check out the new terminal at Graz!

Oh...my vote? for large, planetary scale airports, it has to be MCO. For medium sized airports, MCI. If you know which gate you are departing from there are none in the world that are easier to use (DFW blew this concept by making the distance from the jetway to the parking too great). As for small airports, see above.

AUS--okay, so I'm biased.

PSP--small, not crowded, and lots of fresh air

COS--door-to-door, usually takes less time to get to downtown Denver than DEN (!), if you check a few bags and rent a car. Much nicer drive, too!

My vote for large airport goes to HKG. If you haven't been there, you don't know what an airport is supposed to be like.

For medium sized, I'll agree with MCI.

For small, I'd say HEL.

AUS for non-hub airport. I have to admit that I really like AMS and FRA for big airports.

Perhaps perversely, I really like two little airports in California: ACV and BFL.

ACV is a funky old terminal, built out of native redwood. Little restaurant on the second floor with suprisingly decent food. Basically one gate for departure and one gate for arrival. Only United Express and Horizons fly there commercially. A very nice and new Holiday Inn Express adjacent to the airport.

BFL is also kind of funky. Double the gates of ACV ( ) You can walk off of the plane and out the fence to the adjacent 60's era airport motel, which is cheap and serviceable. Biggest beef is with the OLD x-ray machines which cause the line to back up.

As I say, perverse maybe (but then I even liked the old ONT terminal)

Another small airport in Oregon that is nice and compact is EUG. Seems to be pretty new. And you can get a really, really good bowl of seafood chowder for cheap.

For international, I vote SIN for being the MOST efficient.

For me, there are two ways to look at which airport is best. One is which is easier to use, prettier to look at, etc. The other is which would you rather be stuck in for several hours i.e. which is least boring, has better restaurants/bars, etc. In general, the second criteria is more important to me, so I would probably pick DEN, ATL, SFO, EWR and LAX-Bradley terminal as best, and ORD,DTW,JFK and DFW as worst. (of the large airports)

Been to SYD, MEL, MEM, AKL, CHC, ORD, CDG, LAX,AMS and LHR among other international and domestic airports. My vote goes to LHR and in particular KLM airlines.

My vote for domestic is PIT. Short efficient connections and lots of restaurants and shopping.

If you want lots of shopping when you are stuck waiting for a flight LHR is great. The problem is that you are usually stuck waiting for a flight. The lines at immigration are also sometimes embarrassingly long.

Internationally I like SIN and CDG (although I've had a few minor issues dealing with national pride).

TPA is worthy of another vote. Zurich is very effecient. I think you could leave center city at 9:00 for a 10:00 flight and have a 1/2 percent cance of missing it.
