Ignorance of Hotel Programs
Anyways, I'm an NW mileage nut. I stay at most of NW's hotel partners when I travel; however, I'm never loyal to any hotel chain. I'm only loyal to the price. 
I'm a bit confused with the Double Dipping concept, mileage acrruals and transfers. Can anyone please clarify? [One of the biggest confusions with me is that you MUST be in the hotel program and then transfer hotel points to your ff account?

I am by no means a hotel expert, but it sounds like you and I are mostly in the same boats . . . I believe that double dipping is when you get hotel points and airline miles from a single stay. You "double dip" and don't have to choose one or the other.
I, too have always been price motivated when making lodging decisions, but Ozstamps post about becoming a VIP Gold changed my mind.
It caused me to stay at Hilton twice these last two weeks and I like the upgraded rooms, the smiles I get when staff sees that I am a VIP Gold, and I look forward to earning free nights in hotels.
I don't think its much hassle. But then, I've only been playing this game for a couple of weeks.

I have to agree with CactusPete. I stayed in the Princeton Hyatt back in 1989 when I was management with Bell Atlantic. I was on strike duty. I am just this month going to use the points I got back in 1989 to get five free room nights in Orlando.
Never know when those points will come in handy.
The programs are free... just another number to remember!!!
