VERY OT - I need your help!
TO make a long story short - I am asking for FT members help for something that I know may be impossible. it has nothing to do w/ travel but I am posting everywhere I post on a regular basis. If this get s pulled, so be it...
I have a very dear friend, Tina, who is in the last stages of stomach cancer. She has a couple of weeks, maybe a couple of months to live but is in very advanced renal and liver failure so it is day to day. She has a very rare cancer and has been through every protocol you can imagine. She is bedridden and on large doses of morphine. She loves the HARRY Potter books on tape and her family has gotten her a set.
here's the impossible - the author of the Harry Potter books has written 2 side books - a book of spells and a book of animals I think - and is going to release them March 16 to benefit the British group of comic relief. I have emailed comicrelief in the UK, called Scholastic (who publishes the books in the US) and called Random House who does the audio books. All have regretfully repsonded that because of the huge interest and licensing agreements etc they can't do anything to get m e a copy of these books any earlier than March 16.
if ANY FT'ers have any ins in the publishing industry to get either of these books or parts or even the covers or some lilttle thing earlier than March, or knows of someone I could call or write... I would be forever in your debt. Tina is in San Jose CA and I am in San Francisco..I could make a donation to a charity if that would help...
please post or email me if you can help. I realize how weirdly melodramatic this sounds but I would do anything to help TIna through her last days..
Thanks all -

Email The Sun newspaper or the Mirror.Try the Sun first. Tell them of the response you have had, and that this might be the last thing this girl does on the earth. Play it hard. They have the necessary clout, for God's sake this tired old red Nose thing is a charity. The reason for the date of the 16th is that is the day of the telethon. I will be in spain on the 16th itself, I am so sorry.

Several FT'ers responded on the board and in private email with some suggestions for how to get the books and Dan even wnnt so far to visit the Scholasic offices where the boo ks are printed. Unfortunately none of these efforts have (yet) come to fruition - BUT - I wanted to let all of you know how much the support of FTers has meant to me , and to my friend Tina's family. I've let jher family kmnow how many FT folks hav offered suggestions and help and it's really a comfort to them that people who do';t really know me or TIna are willing to lend a helping hand. THis is an amazing community and I value your help a great deal.
TIna is not long for the world and is fading every day but she is also aware the my "friends on the Web" are trying to help. I like to think it is a small confort for her.
Thanks again all -
