Which hotel chain is better?
Hello,
I have a question for you guys, which hotel chain is better price and quality. I know that you get what what you paid for, but there should be a medium where you are getting a quality service with a reseaonable price.
Personally, I have stayed alot in Bass Hotels. Now I am starting to rack up on Marriot and Hilton points. I like Marriot and Hilton better than Bass Hotels.
I have never stayed in Starwood before so I have no comment on them.
Your input is appreciated.

It's very hard to say, IMHO. With regard too the "big 4," I used to really like Marriott (#4), but now have dropped to MR, CM Gold as I've been recently increasingly disenchanted with them, and while I'm also only Gold with Hilton(#3), they are seemingly improving in every way in my book.
As a Starwood Platinum and Hyatt Diamond, they would likely rate #1 and #2. FWIW, customer service and availability of quality hotels with good locations, excellent food and service at the best value are what I'm after - that and upgrades!
BTW- Likelihood of upgrades to Club floors at these properties according to recent data revealed to me by Randy (at live chat 8/15) are Marriott (nearly 90%) > Starwood > Hyatt > Hilton (75%)
So maybe I should have stuck it out with Marriott!

It difficult to answer this. It's tempting to say "Hilton is better than Marriott is better than Bass." But if I break things down by brand--and this is just my opinion, mind you--they're all intertwined:

Residence Inn (best)
Hilton
Hampton Inn
Courtyard
Crowne Plaza
Marriott
Holiday Inn
Red Lion
Fairfield Inn
DoubleTree (worst)
I had a bad experience with Sheraton (Seattle) a few years back--so unbelievably bad I let my accrued points expire and to this day refuse to do business with Starwood.

Interesting responses. A few years ago I'd have replied `Marriott,' but today for overall price/value comparison I'd go with Doubletree.
On the down side, Best Western is pretty much on a par with Motel 6 these days ... only you see a better class of guests at Motel 6.

I have to say that the best for me is actually Embassy Suites. Can't beat full suite with free full made to order breakfast and cocktails in the evenings. And reasonably priced.

Just finished a pleasant conversation with a lady at SPG in Austin. She was so nice that I wanted to call back and book a paid night.
Have never graduated to Four Seasons or R-C.
Define value? My guess is that many of us are swimming in different oceans.
I'm more comfortable with Hilton and Starwood properties & programs. Top tier on SPG and HH. Still cannot see the value of Hyatt and Marriott. Will stay in a Marriott a few times a year, but will not join the their program.

If you're lucky enough to find one, stay at a Homewood Suite. It's like a home away from home. Separate living and bed rooms. Nice-sized kitchen including a full refridgerator/freezer, microwave, and stove.
The only downside is no room service, but they always include some local delivery options in the guidebook.
I also like Embassy Suites, but some of them are getting a little old and run-down. But you can't beat that full breakfast in the morning and free happy hour in the afternoon!
And Doubletree Suites ranks up there as well, though they're a little more expensive.
And best of all, they're now all owned by Hilton and earn Honors points!

Sheraton/Starwood benefits used to be great, but heavily diluted in recent years, altho I stay loyal, as that AUTOMATIC late check out 4pm is a godsend when I have an evening flight to OZ, and want to freshen up before the trip. Saves paying day rate each time!
Plus with their different "brands" now, Starwood have properties EVERYWHERE on earth it seems in all kinds of price brackets.
