mco restaurants

Got a "date" in MCO Wednesday night. If all goes well, the results will be BETTER than sex. Soooo looking for recommendations for restaurants to help make the "sale." Will be near the convention center (meetings is at the Sheraton) and without rental car...

Steak and/or seafood preferred.

Suggestions?????

Charley's Steakhouse is pretty excellent. Would recommend the Orange Blossom Trail (or is it Orange?) location over the International Drive location since the OBT location is less touristy. Excellent steaks. They have three locations last I knew.

There ought to be good seafood in Orlando, but I never managed to find it. Now in Titusville, on the other hand... but that's a good drive from Orlando.

Don't crucify me for saying this, but I really enjoy Wolfgang Puck's at Downtown Disney. Also you might try Emeril's at Universal.

one of my best chinese experiences in North America (have been there so far 3 times, last time in sptember-99):

Ming Court, 9188 International Drive, tf 407-351-9988, hours: 11am-2:30pm, 4:30pm-midnight. chinesstyle architecture with undulating Great Wall enclosing gardens and waterways. Live seafood tanks.

A restraunt that I really liked near the Convention Center is Bahama Breeze ... then I discovered it was a chain ... just doesn't seem right to like a chain restraunt

As for Emeril's ... I visited them and the food was great, but I was disappointed they didn't have:

* Abita Beer
* Turtle Soup (They took it off the menu, someone later pointed out that folks vacationing in Orlando might have objected ... great).

If your "Hot Date" is under 8, then there's always the Rainforest Cafe in Downtown Disney.

The food is lousy, and the service worse, but it heaven to a 5 year old.

Ditto HappyMob on Charlie's Steakhouse. A mini Bern's.

Also at Downtown Disney is Bongo's. Very fun place and great Cuban food.

OMNI: Bongo's is created by the still beautiful Gloria Estefan and her husband.

I have not been to Disney or Orlando in 28 years. Maybe we need an F-T get together on MCO so I can come down soemtime (if only to go to Charlie's for another steak night!)

What is the difference between "Downtown Disney" and "Pleasure Island?" Aren't they one in the same? And isn't there a fee to get in?

Or am I confused, and Pleasure Island is the place with the dicos and clubs while downtown is something else. What I really need to do is talk to like a disney "theme person..."

Or do an iwon search...but that does take all the fun out of it...

koko--

Pleasure Island is a seperate area within downtown Disney you are correct about the niteclubs, comedy clubs, etc. and there is an additional cover charge to get on the "island". When I had a convention at Disney this spring a group of us ate at Fultons Crabhouse in Downtown Disney, right next to Pleasure Island. The restaraunt was in an old riverboat (or did it just look like that--not sure) but the service and food were very good--and if you are into dancing--clubbing--or just drinking pleasure island is a great place--though I think $20 cover (Fultons gave us a discount on admission) It has a 70's disco club, and Eighties club, a Live Music Venue, outdoor stages, comedy club, country bar, and more.

Hope this helps-Have fun!

My $.02 about the Disney Restaurants:

Fulton's - Great - try the blue crab claw appetizer
Also worth a try:
Artist Pointe - Wilderness Lodge
California Grill - Contemporary Hotel - try and book a dinner table while the fireworks are going on - best view around, IMHO.

koko- if you go out for crabs, watch out for those sharp claws (actualy, any sharp object for that matter...). You wouldn't want your "date" to "pop".

If money is no object try Arthur's 27 at sunset. The view, food and service can't be beat. Call ahead as the menu changes.
