Blackout dates & tickets

Hi:
I am looking to plan for next Feb. and have enough miles for a ticket. We however wish to return home on a blackout date (school vacation) has anyone booked a ticket for an ok date then changed (paying the $75.00 fee)and rebooked for a blackout time? Is this a problem because the ticket is coded or once the ticket is issued is it just a regular ticket? It would be worth the $75.00 to return home over the weekend. Thanks for any info.
Carol

(with all airlines I know: StarAlliance-members, SR) award tickets are coded and you can't use 'your' method to avoid the blackout-date - sorry.

I have been sucessful standing by for a flight on a blackout day (with an award ticket).

When you change a ticket, the new ticket must meet all the conditions of the original fare, including availability. Accordingly, if you change a ticket to a date on which the appropriate fare is more expensive (e.g. from a weekday to a weekend) you are responsible for not only the change fee, but also the fare difference.

In the case of a reward ticket, you cannot meet the conditions of the original tarriff, because the original tariff is blacked out for the date to which you want to change.

C'est daumage.
