The games we play
When I'm on the road I typically bring along a game to play on the laptop when I need to kill time on the plane or in the lounge, even though there might be "real" work to do. I recently finished Command & Conquor: Tiberian Sun as both the good and bad guys. Sometimes I also play Flight Simulator, tracing the flight using the exact same aircraft as what I'm actually on, it gets some funny looks at times, and one lady actually thought I was tapped into the plane's computer and tracking our flight in real-time!
Reading Kokonutz's recent trip report, I noticed that he plays Simcity and wondered what other games are good for the road?

Try the shareware strategy game of "Hexxagon"... very addictive. (it is kinda like Othello).
Download it free at: http://hotfiles.zdnet.com/cgi-bin/te...l?fcode=0000KR

I love to play chess.
On a recent UA flight the pilot walked by and saw my son and I playing tic-tac-toe the old-fashioned way, with pen and paper. He actually stopped and played a round.

I'm not a big "gamer" myself, so I'm usually nose-deep into a golf magazine or book, but when the laptop is turned on, I've usually got a pair of headphones on listening to my VAST (currently 260) collection of MP3s. It's like having your very own personal favorite's hit-list at your disposal.
BTW...even though I'm not that much into games, my favorite all time game is/was MYST. I have the sequel here, but have yet to crack it open.

Over the years, my choice of in-flight entertainment has changed quite a bit...
Ten years ago, I had a walkman and a book. I also had a Game Boy.
Five years ago, I had a discman and would watch the occasional movie on the main screen, and still carried a book.
Two years ago, I started playing MP3s on my laptop and did work.
One year ago, I switched to a MiniDisc player (I know this may seem like a step backward, but I like the fact that I don't have to have my laptop... and I haven't looked into the portable MP3 players yet but I imagine that is the next step) and started watching a lot more of the in flight movies thanks to in-seat video. I forgot that books were printed on paper. I also started playing video games on my laptop sometimes... Sim(city, etc..), or "strategy" games like Age of Empires or games like Civilzation...
Now, I still carry my MiniDisc, but I also have a DVD-ROM drive now so I've started to bring my own movies with me. I also, surprisingly, re-discovered the paperback novel. And yes, I still play games once in a while too... the last one that I played on a plane was Homeworld.

When I'm in the airport and know I have time I like to get online and play Spades (at MSN Zone) or Euchre (at Yahoo!).
The problem with games these days is that they typically require you to have the CD in all the time, which can kill your battery life. I have an older laptop and I like to keep both batteries in it for maximum battery life. I have a cracked version of Age of Empires (Microsoft is even trying to dominate the game market now, and they've made some very good games too like Age of Empires and Close Combat) that I love to play ... that game *still* hasn't gotten old ...
Also, the Palm (And the new color Palm (IIIc) is supposed to have a gorgeous screen I've read) is a great little game machine ... I play spades and euchre on there (though the AI's leave much to be desired) ... I also have Tiger Woods Golf on there, a very very cool Palm game and a game I just found this week that is also very cool, Kyle's Quest, a neat little RPG that has a bunch of different downloadable user created modules on their website. The Palm is great for killing time I've found ... truth be told that's what I use it for the most ...

I never remember to bring any games with me, so I spend my time writing in my diary and working on "Flyertalk: the Movie."
PremEx: Does Beyond.com have "Wolf's revenge?" I could get that and get double ClickRewards!
