transit at LHR

Hi,

Would 1 hour 50 mins be enough to transfer from a BA flight arriving at Terminal 4 to an AY flight departing from Terminal1?

Thanks

That should be plenty of time as long as your not delayed to long in customs. It's a nice walk through the tunnels after a long flight.

Cheers Scott

Just take the Heathrow Express between T4 and T1. It takes about 5 mins by train plus 5 to 10 mins walking. Depending what time of day you arrive, you should'nt have to wait more than 5 mins for a train.

Its free by the way, and a lot better than the old bus.

There will be a OneWorld transfer agent meeting the flight and holding a sign with the familiar purple OneWorld globe. They will tell you the best way to get where you need to be.

Especially if there are a lot of connecting passengers (which there usually are), they will usually run a bus from the gate to the T1 connection area. If so, the agent will direct you.

Basically, it should only take about 30 minutes to transfer, and you will NOT have to pass through HM Customs.

Heathrow is a marvel of efficiency. Recently I transfered to flights on different terminals - three times in just over a week, once even between 1w and a *A flights, and each time was quick and efficient. It's also remarkably simple, just follow the signs for "connecting flights" where you will be able to check in for your next flight (if you haven't done so already) and be directed to a sterile bus that will take you to your next terminal. And as Paulo said, there is no need to clear customs or immigration even though you may need to go through the metal detectors again. I believe the airlines use 45 or 50 minutes as the minimum connecting time between terminals/international flights so you'll have lots of time.

You WILL have to go through metal detectors again. LHR is one of the most security-conscious airports around.

And if you set off the metal detector, you WILL be searched by hand...no exceptions. (Just aks Diana )

I've had very different experiences with LHR efficiency. Twice I waited close to 20 minutes for the "every 5 minutes" bus to transfer terminals, to the point of almost missing my flight. Then again, I only had about an hour between flights, so that didn't help.

If there's no bus from the gate to the T1/2 Connection Centre, and you don't mind clearing UK immig./customs, then I concur on the Heathrow Express Train advice. (Warning if lots of luggage: trolleys not allowed on the platform.)

Otherwise, you'll have to walk through T4, following the "Connections" signs, get on the regular bus to the Connection Centre, etc. One hour, 50 mins. should be OK if there are no inordinate delays, but not by a lot!

that should be plenty of time. since you are transferring from ba's term 4, the buses run much more frequently than from term 3 for example. if you were on aa or ua, you'd be pushing your luck.

and the option of clearing customs versus using the bus...get real. when was the last time you got through a customs line in lhr from a us originating flight in under 1/2 hour? and they will give you major attitude if they find out you're only changing planes. don't check into the country for only an hour. that's a sure way to get felt up just like diana!!!

I've made connections from IST arriving flights in T1 to T4 departing LAX flights consistently in under 30 mins (even with Q's at the metal detectors).

You sholud have more than enough time......But be on guard for flight delays . My incoming flight to LHR was delayed for 1 hr. My connection time buffer dwindled to 50 minutes . You may have guessed, I missed my connection in T 1.

I've been reading this thread today and just realized that i have a 90 minute connection from a UA flight into LHR onto a BD flight up to GLA. This is no big deal now since the flight isn't until next autumn (early booking, got all my UA segments upgraded, I'm a little anal about booking ASAP).
Anyhow, should this be tight timewise? I've always complained when I flew BA because the connecting time was usually 4 -5 hours , but now I'm wondering, is 90 minutes pushing it?

BD is in T1, and UA is T3. Those are the clustered terminals, so you should have no problem. I just came in from GLA last weekend--we were bussed to the terminal (in the rain, ugh) but got there just in time. I was a bit nonplussed to see one of the passengers shifting their pheasants from one carryon bag to another (they'd been hunting--had I had a child, I would have been upset) at luggage claim. jl
