Outside Pool/Deck Chicago Hotels

Anyone know of hotels in the downtown Chicago area that have either a pool or outdoor sundeck? I travel there frequently on Sundays and figured I could get in some sun without the crowds.

mauld:

You may have a tough time finding a hotel in downtown Chicago with an outdoor pool since it could only be used about 3-4 months out of the year. When I was on a river tour last weekend, though, I did notice that the Sheraton Towers Chicago right on the river does have a sundeck. Seems like it's a very nice hotel but haven't stayed there. Hope this helps.

AnnaS, yes that does help. I just wanted to be able to sit out, get some sun, read and perhaps have a 'cocktail' or two in relative quiet--as opposed to hauling a blanket etc down to the lakefront!

Hi!

I received my MBA from Chicago, so spent two years there (and visited many times more). While not an outdoor pool, the swimming pool at the InterContinental hotel is very famous and I would highly recommend it! It has a very interesting history, as well. The pool, located on the third floor, is the last remaining feature of the original Medinah Athletic Club, which was built in 1929. This 25-meter, junior Olympic-sized swimming pool was one of the first above-the-ground swimming pools of its time.

Here is a link to a great picture of the pool:

If you stay at the Fairmont hotel or the Hyatt Regency Chicago, you can get day passes at the Lakeshore Athletic Club at Illinois Center (right next door). This is one of the best health clubs in Chicago, and it has a sun roof, with a small plunge pool, as well as a large indoor pool. Also - the tallest indoor rock climbing wall in Chicago.

I just stayed at the Sheraton Chicago & Towers. It is a gorgeous hotel with water views from most every room. There is a huge deck out by the river, and you can walk to Navy Pier along the river. Definitely recommended.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I got a cheap AAA rate at the Sheraton Towers (in additon to getting my all important Starwood Points). I travel to Chicago a lot and will try out the other properties.

Enjoy Chicago Mauld, and based on your profile you probably know it's a different world from NYC.

Catman- I thought New Yorkers and Chicagoans had this lovey-lovey relationship with each other and the respective cities, NO?

The sights are great but are we talking about water quality or water temperature here?

mauld: I've stayed at the Summerfield Suites, 166 E Superior St., a couple of times. It's an all suite hotel, similar to a Marriott Residence Inn. I've gotten very good rates there. Great location, close to Michigan Avenue shopping.

Another plus - you can enjoy great pizza at Gino's East next door. (Then you can work it off swimming in the outdoor pool.)

I was referring to the water quality. The temp doesn't matter when it's 90 degrees F outside.
