I dislike soft benefits which are conditional on availability. They can confuse you if you're new to the game like me. I guess they can also confuse you when using a status you rarely use (you might still have status due to a credit card or whatever).
I found myself in a situation once or twice where I was somewhat relying on a benefit but didn't get it. Like, you make an educated guess you can get a late check-out (because (i) you're top-tier elite and (ii) on the hotel's website, numerous room types are still bookable) but it's not granted.
