Never seen it since.
Perhaps the term lounge dragon was used?

It is out of the ordinary, but I don't think they are forcing anyone to stay there.

Aren't dragons revered in Chinese culture?

I've never encountered it in a hotel but it seems quite frequent in airport lounges.

Never had this happen but I was very careful to avoid certain websites in certain countries where there is more strict censorship.

I wouldn't be surprised if some hotels blocked XXX-rated sites because they cut into their pay-per-view XXX revenue.

Or just charge for wifi in general.

In Vegas I had trouble getting a cell signal in my room at the Flamingo, which was a major PITA if you didn't want to pay for wifi.

I was surprised to see porn sites up on the computers in the Qatar Airways first class lounge. I was more surprised by the disinterest in the men that went to use the computer and weren't fazed by what was on the screen.

I thought the locals would be anti porn since many are so strict with their beliefs.

LOL. A friend of mine told me of his travel experience in Oman. The licensed bars in Muscat were filled with locals.

The hotels are likely not "blocking" Internet access, they're just using a "family safe" DNS. Something like this: https://www.opendns.com/home-internet-security/

To get around it, just plug in your own DNS servers into your networks settings on your computer. Use Google's DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. There's plenty of guides on how to do this.

Lol indeed! Sorry, not laughing at you, just the concept. IME many ultra religious types either live with the cognitive dissonance or conveniently bend the rules when it suits them.
