Why does baggage go on its front when loading?

Why does baggage go on its front when loading?
Is there a particular reason why baggage handlers nearly always put cases onto the belt soft top side down rather than the more reinforced side?
Watching some unloading at present and thankfully I didn't check everything. Assuming the bag that felt off the belt just now is fine, wouldn't want the bag the handler just stood on to get into the hold.
And now one has just fell off the cart pulling them. At least he noticed and went back for it.

Exactly this.
On some of the higher aircraft (I'm looking at you A330/A340) the belt loader is at an impressive angle up to reach the sill of the bulk cargo door. A heavy bag with wheels on the bottom can reach terrifying speeds if it rolls from the very top of the belt.
After having dodged more than my fair share of runaway bags I can completely understand why the rampies place them top down.
