What? Flip flops are so easy to take off and put on, why wouldn't I wear them to the lav, or just to walk around? Laced shoes on the other hand...

If by dress up you mean sweat pants, a sweater and sneakers, absolutely.

By not wearing baseball caps, exercise clothes (outside the gym), or anything emblazoned with the logo or slogan of a company that rightfully should be paying me to be its walking advertisement, I am routinely mistaken for British when traveling-- including twice in the past 30 days in the US!

Have told this before...On the other hand, if you are casual, you can be confused with an employee of the yacht club, like I was in Monaco.

Do you carry around a heavy novel and sport a fake British accent? How does anyone mistake your accent for a Brit?

When travelling, I always wear my go to outfit of a simple sweater and trousers. Before takeoff, I change to Pyjamas bottoms(I bring my own if they don't offer it)/sweatpants+sweater combo. I also bring slippers if the airline doesn't offer it. It makes things way more comfortable.

For me, if the flight is less than 8 hours or so, I have some trousers from Uniqlo with elasticated waistbands like these and they are really perfect for me. But if it is a longer flight, I will probably just change into pyjamas or trackie-bottoms for the flight.

A little different, but I am having lunch at a nice French restaurant. Not stuffy, but a little formal. So, of course, there is a woman wearing a baseball cap. Sigh.
