School spring break season starts a week or two after the game, thus students (and their families) are not likely to fly much before the break.

Large conventions tend to avoid Super Bowl week, thus the convention goers are staying put.

A slightly different version of flying on the day of the Super Bowl:

Last year, I flew on the 6am LGA-ORD on game day with the intention of driving 3 1/2 hours to IND for the game, then driving back and sleeping nearby ORD for a return on Monday. The plan was to save thousands over a direct flight or hotel in the area of the game. I thought this was somewhat of an original idea. When I got on the Hertz shuttle, I realized the entire thing was filled with the people from my flight who started to put on New York Football Giants paraphernalia ...including a guy whose carry-on luggage consisted included a portable grill.

I've heard anecdotal evidence that some United pilots will put the Superbowl/ World Series/ big college game/ etc... on Channel 9.

It would be quite an experience to fly between BWI and SFO during the Super Bowl. The cities are far enough apart that you could be in the air during the entire game.

On a UA 737 with Direct TV, could you imagine the noise whenever there is a score.

Everyone? Really?

Personally, as someone who couldn't give a rat's hindquarters about football, I'll be enjoying the lack of people pretty much everywhere, save for bars. I'll then be on a hopefully less than full transcon.

Sadly, no.

And it's worse in many ways, because pilots keep updating you on the score, even when you don't give a crap about football.

They did this on a SFO-IAD transcon I was on when Pittsburgh beat Arizona. I think it was 2009.

The expected TV audience in the US is 110,000,000. That leaves 200,000,000 Americans to travel and/or do something else.

I'm going SFO- DFW SB Sunday. Haven't checked the seat availability but the best part about traveling on S B Sunday is the lack of traffic esp. crossing the Bay Bridge!

I'm actually leaving Sunday for a convention. I have a morning flight as I planned ahead to be able to watch the game. There are actually a couple of conventions that I know of over Super Bowl Sunday.

Btw my flight is full. I did get the upgrade so ill get to have a few drinks before the game
