global entry and tsa pre check

After you complete your Global Entry interview, you will be issued your G.E. card which contains your Know Traveler ID number. G.E. auto-enrolls you in TSA Pre Check. There is no TSA Pre Check at SFO as of yet.

As a side note I know you're AA elite but VX is starting seasonal JFK-PSP in late December. Might help if you ever have to do that routing.

Global Entry is for international arrivals; not relevant for going between San Francisco and either Palm Springs or New York... Yes, it's one route to get on the Pre-Check approval list, but it's not the only one.

I believe that you have to supply your PASSID in your traveler information for any flights you take to be eligible for PreCheck.

On the UA board there are a lot of stories of people being in GE and not getting selected for PreCheck until they get the correct information into their itineraries.

Plus apparently your name on your ticket has to be exactly the same as it is on the qualifying pass (Global Entry for me). In other words, if your full middle name is on the card, it has to be on the ticket as well.

It is possible to be invited to participate in Pre-Check by an airline. Gernerally, they do this for their upper level elites. If you are going to use your PASS ID to qualify, then it does have to be included with the traveler information passed to TSA by the airline for the flight.

UA thread says it is for UA travelers, but very little of what is in there is UA specific:

It is the traveler information passed to TSA for the fight the must exactly match the GE card info, not the name on the ticket. I have gotten Pre-Check approvals when the ticket only included my middle initial, but my GE card has my full middle name. Once I started putting my full middle name in the traveler information record, I started getting cleared.

As others have mentioned, GE is for international travel. If you expect to do much of that, then it is really worth it, in my opinion.

Pre-Check is real nice to have for domestic travel, and it is reportedly coming to SFO next month.

As an AA EX PLAT I am surprised you did not get an invitation to Pre-Check from AA. Check your account or call customer service to see if they will qualify you.

By the way, UA wil reimburse some of its customers (1K, GS) for the $100 GE fee. Don't know if AA has the same deal?

That has not been my experience. My full middle middle name is on my NEXUS card, but I only ever use my middle initial on tickets because of space limitations. I also had put only my middle initial in the traveler information on the reservation that is passed to the TSA as I have been using my driver's license which also only has my middle initial. I passed through PreCheck twice earlier this month with no problem.

Maybe they just don't like me then!
