The seal is on the oxygen compartment (now either removed or deactivated ) or the smoke detector if it's a household type with batteries so passengers won't remove the batteries and smoke. That's why the announcement says smoking or tampering with smoke detectors is prohibited. Coffee bag is an old long standing trick for odor control
