I called Air France to confirm our flights from Lyon to CDG, they could not find our records, I inadvertently did not have my confirmation number, and after much unsuccess, modified my car rental and drove myself to Paris (The drive wasn't too long at 2.5 hours, but I wanted to avoid the result: An intense rental car drive into the heart of Paris on a Friday afternoon at rush hour).

Only missed one flight in my life. Many moons ago, when I was a university student, my father was driving me up to BFS when the car broke down at the top of the Glenshane Pass. This is a low mountain pass that connects the northwest of Ireland with the Belfast area. This was in the days when mobile phones were uncommon, so my father walked down the hill to find somewhere to call someone to tow him home. I stood at the side of the road with my thumb out (only time I've ever hitch-hiked). After a while someone came along and took me to BFS. Unfortunately I'd missed my flight by just a few minutes. The airline (BMI if I remember correctly) did kindly agree to put me on a flight a little later at no extra cost despite having a heavily discounted economy ticket. However, it was from Belfast's other airport (BHD). So I found a taxi, and made it to BHD just in time!

Wasn't there a story a while back about a European college kid a while back who was aiming for Sydney, NSW, Australia, and almost ended up in Sidney, Montana, USA instead? IIRC, they only really caught the error when he was getting ready to board the tiniest of the RJs in Salt Lake City for the last leg.

I haven't missed a flight in a few years.
Most embarrassing one (long ago) was when I showed up a solid hour late for a flight due to a time zone error...literally, walked into the airport at 11AM for a flight that took off at 10AM.
Reason it was so embarrassing? It was from my home airport...
I had flown in the night before from a week on the West Coast, slept a few hours, woken up on a Saturday morning, and headed out to the airport with my watch off by two hours.
Thankfully it was the old Midwest Express. They rebooked me without too much hassle and even gave me an IRROPS discount certificate for their lounge in Milwaukee.

FWIW, I tend to think that a lot of the most humorous "wrong city" stories are urban legend. Oakland/Auckland is another one I've heard about over the years.
