Only missed one flight in my life. Many moons ago, when I was a university student, my father was driving me up to BFS when the car broke down at the top of the Glenshane Pass. This is a low mountain pass that connects the northwest of Ireland with the Belfast area. This was in the days when mobile phones were uncommon, so my father walked down the hill to find somewhere to call someone to tow him home. I stood at the side of the road with my thumb out (only time I've ever hitch-hiked). After a while someone came along and took me to BFS. Unfortunately I'd missed my flight by just a few minutes. The airline (BMI if I remember correctly) did kindly agree to put me on a flight a little later at no extra cost despite having a heavily discounted economy ticket. However, it was from Belfast's other airport (BHD). So I found a taxi, and made it to BHD just in time!
