Long term stays
Hi
we are gearing up for next year when we run our businesses from a location independent angle.
Yay!
So we love travel and are looking at some long stay options at various hotels.
I though I'd pop in here and see what type of deals others may have negotiated, percentage of room rate, upgrades, food and beverage, laundry etc.
We are looking at roaming for at least 2-3 years and will begin in Asia (for at least 12 months), then venture to Europe, namely Italy, France, Croatia to begin with.
I am interested in what style of packages you think would be available as it's always good to have some research under your belt before beginning negotiations.
I have read afew threads here including:
first
another
Thanks

what kind of properties and accommodations?
one thing ive wondered about is renting unsold real estate like FS fractionals in florence, although that particular development is not attached to hotel
there are a lot of hotel rental apartments, especially in asia
if cost is low enough, it doesnt matter if you dont use entire lease

I think that the world will be a very, very different place two years from now, so I hope you're keeping some assets that won't devalue on the side just in case.
That said, hope you have a great time living the dream!

My business is internet based, and I've been leading a nomadic lifestyle for the last 5 years or so. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Most large hotel chains are not interested in offering long term discounts. For example, Hilton (often my first choice for short stays, especially in Asia) won't offer a single cent off their regular rate. Hyatt don't even reply to messages requesting quotes for long term stays. One exception is Four Seasons which sometimes will. Independent boutique hotels are much more accomodating, and you can often find a good rate with them, especially in Europe.
For stays of more than 2 or 3 weeks, I generally prefer apartments. AirBNB is my first port of call these days. I used to use VRBO and Homelidays, as well as local real estate agents, but frankly in the last year or two AirBNB has had such a good selection that it's pretty much a one-stop shop, at least in Europe.

We recently used Flipkey to rent an apt in Bangkok. Found VRBO had very little for the area whereas Flipkey had an abundance.
My husband recently quit his job so we are planning to travel around for the next couple of years until we decide where we want to put down roots. Our plan is anything less than 5 days to stay at hotels, 6 days or longer we will look for an apt to rent. I don't envisage doing a lot of cooking if we are at an apt but it is nice to throw a load of washing in the machine rather than be worrying about the cost.

Awesome, thanks to you both.
We are very much looking forward to the long term nomadic lifestyle and it's great to see that others are doing it too.
Good to know about the hotels though. We were planning on apartments etc in Europe, but thought that hotels would do some great rates through Asia...
Will have to research some more.
