Improving Productivity on the Road

Hi Everyone,

As a frequent reader of FlyerTalk, especially the Mileage Runs Deals Forum, when it came time for a travel-related school project, I figured, what better place to solicit some feedback?

To give you some background, I am currently pursuing an MBA (with a focus on entrepreneurship) and my group has been tasked with designing a product to improve the travel experience. We have decided to target the road warrior's desire to be more productive at the airport and I was hoping to get some feedback regarding your frustrations with trying to be productive while waiting for a flight.

My classmates and I are all working professionals who travel a fair amount but we don't want to limit our observations to just us. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts you all have on the topic.

Thanks!

1. Lack of power supplies in e.g. gate area
2. Lack of or spotty wifi

Lack of wi-fi in many places can be overcome with an aircard - allows internet access wherever there is reasonable cell phone reception. It is also a big help in hotels where internet connections can be problematic.

SKO2, Welcome to FT.

We have had a spate of new members suddenly popping up to have their research questions answered for school projects.

While normally I'm happy to help a fellow FTer out, because of this, I no longer respond to non-contributing members.

Yup, we have the sticks in Canada, but AFAIK they go into a USB port - if you are using a device with no USB they don't help (and network data on e.g. iPhone can be a) astronomically expensive (when roaming) or not supported (depending on country etc). Also on the sticks, you need a data plan as well - great if your company will cover it, but not so great if you are self employed (i.e. comes out of your pocket, albeit a business expense) / your employer will only cover one device (say your cell) for data etc.

Welcome to Flyertalk.

I find a lounge membership to go a long way to being more productive at the airport. Power plugs, usually a quiet place to work, wifi or if not I have an hotspot.

Of course, it depends on what being productive means to each individual. If it's making a dozen phone calls your needs are different than somebody like me who just wants a place to be left alone to work.
