Segments Booked Separately Question

I have the following flights:
MDZ - SCL on LAN (booked using Orbitz)
SCL - DFW - BNA on AA (booked through AA with points)

What are the chances I can check my bags all the way through to Nashville? Will LAN be able to access the flight information for the remaining segments? Will I have to collect my bags and exit the airport to recheck to leave SCL?

Thanks

When you check in at MDZ, ask the agent if you can check in your bags all the way through. Have your AA confirmation number handy so they can look up your itinerary and link them. Since they are oneworld partners, they may have a baggage transfer agreement, or they may not. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I agree. I have traveled on trips where one segment was award and the other was not. The airline was able to check the bags all the way through but they did need the confirmation numbers for all segments.

See this previous thread

for information about it. They can do it, but apparently don't always do it.

I can't help with the SCL answer, but I believe you will have to collect your bags in DFW to go through customs, even if they are ticketed to Nashville. You may already be aware of this, but thought I would mention it just in case.

Thanks for the replies. Here's an update:

I was able to get my bags tagged all the way through to Nashville. I took my printed AA itinerary and had no issues. Bags do have to be collected at your first US stop to clear customs.
