Those of us like myself who've flown upon these aircraft do have a bit of an advantage...

After a month on the road, I'll be back home next week and hope to have a few new questions out for those who might be interested. Of course, feel free to come up with your own questions if you like. For now at least, the big question facing myself and perhaps miniliq and jlemon is who will win the big game Sunday evening? Broncos are favored by six but with Brees' arm and our secondary, victory is hardly in the bag... Then again, our secondary is improving...

Happy contrails, all... My flight boards in twenty minutes. It's a beautiful day here in San Diego. I just flew in from Orlando and am bound for Seattle and Portland. Trip report to follow sometime in the next couple of weeks...

Mr. Roboto, you da man!

From a domestic service standpoint, US airlines generally offered the best service in the air back then. The sixties and seventies were a great time to fly!

Good Afternoon All!

Well, we've now had our first frost of the season here in south Looziana, but you wouldn't know it with our weather here today....a possible record high around 85 F is forecast and it feels like spring outside. However, not one but two cold fronts are on their way to our region so it looks like we'll get back to more seasonable conditions....

So much for climatology! Let's return to the quiz!

1) Name the only airline that operated jet equipment into Walla Walla, WA (ALW) and identify the aircraft type.

2) Name the only airline that operated jet equipment into Santa Rosa, CA (STS) and identify the aircraft type.

3) Name the only airline that operated jet equipment nonstop between Los Angeles (LAX) and Sun Valley, ID (SUN) and identify the aircraft type.

Questions 4) through 6) have a timeline of December of 1989.....

4) Name the only the airline that was operating nonstop jet flights between Eugene, OR (EUG) and Los Angeles (LAX) and identify the equipment.

5) How many daily nonstop flights was TWA operating from St. Louis (STL) to Los Angeles (LAX) at this time and what type of aircraft was flown on the route?

6) How many daily nonstop flights was United operating from New York Newark (EWR) to Los Angeles (LAX) and what type of aircraft were they operating on the route?

7) In the fall of 1979, how many daily departures was Hughes Airwest operating from Edmonton, Alberta (YEG)? Also identify the first stop made by all of these flights (which was the same city every case).

8) Also in the fall of 1979, there were two airlines competing on the nonstop route between Los Angeles (LAX) and Calgary (YYC). Name both carriers and identify the aircraft they flew on the route.

Questions 9) through 12) have a timeline of July of 1983....

9) What airline was operating DC-9 equipment into Casper, WY (CPR) at this time?

10) What airline was operating nonstop jet service between Calgary (YYC) and Great Falls, MT (GTF) at this time? Also identify the equipment.

11) There was only one airline flying nonstop between Long Beach, CA (LGB) and Denver (DEN) at this time. Name the carrier and identify the aircraft type flown on the route.

12) Frontier was flying new MD-80 aircraft at this time nonstop between Denver (DEN) and seven different destinations. Name all seven.

13) Name the only airline to ever operate scheduled BAC One-Eleven service into Calgary (YYC).

14) It's a beautiful Saturday back in February of 1976 and the winter ski season is in full swing in western Colorado. United is operating seasonal weekend flights into Grand Junction, CO (GJT) in order to accommodate the ski crowd. So on this Saturday from GJT.....

A) How many departures will UA operate with DC-8 aircraft?
B) How many departures will UA operate with B727-100 aircraft?
C) How many departures will UA operate with B727-200 aircraft?

And for extra special bonus points (plus a complimentary hand-made Cajun Bloody Mary courtesy of yours truly next time you're in LFT), what were the nonstop destinations served by these United flights?

Hope everyone has a nice weekend! And Geaux LSU!

And here's a bonus question (which, quite frankly, I forgot to add to the above list)......

15) In December of 1989, this airline was operating two nonstop flights per week on a scheduled basis between Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ) and Los Angeles (LAX) and also one nonstop flight per week on a scheduled basis between Kingston (KIN) and LAX. Name the air carrier and the equipment flown on these routes.

I"ll jump in:

15) 12/89--Montego Bay/LAX ----Air Jamaica using L10 MON/SAT
KIngston/LAX-- Air Jamaica using L10 SAT

5) 12/89--STL/LAX/STL--- TWA operated 5 nonstops each way using L10 aircraft.
On this route today there are 4 nonstops (AA and WN) using M80 and 737)

Correct on both!

Interesting to see JM operating the L-1011.....and TWA had quite a hub operation at STL at this time.

Yes, UA was operating the Super DC-8 on two of these flights.....and these aircraft may have actually been DC-8-71 aircraft which United had converted in-house from the DC-8-61.

But there was a third UA flight EWR-LAX as well.....and it was not operated with a D8S.

Any guesses?

7) HP, YEG to LAS: I'll guess twice a day -- 737-200 -- always stopped in YYC to pick up pax, but not allowed to carry any YEG-YYC.

9) YYC-LAX: DL and AC, both with 727-200

4) part of question missing, but guessing your devious mind, I'll say EUG-Medford (MFR) -- US using the BAC-146. Of course there are about 7 other possible non-stop destinations, so if I'm right, I should get extra credit.

Now back to the game!

jlemon already said it was RW, also HP didn't start flying until 1983.

Well, I was only ten years off -- I was looking at 1989, not 1979. And you're absolutely right, it was America West (HP) in 1989.
