It has been at least 15 years ago now and I don't remember what airport or where we were going. We had a mechanical delay and a guy dressed in a suit was berating the GA how he just had to get to an important business meeting. The GA agent calmly explained that is was mechanical delay and as soon as it was fixed the plane would depart. The guy said to the GA: "Well, can't they just fix it in the air?"

I'm sick of being pushed out of the way off a plane because someones flight boards in 10 minutes!!!!

It does, unless they took it away as of three days ago.

CHS airport this morning in line for the TSA rape. Woman behind me "I dont have to show them any ID, show me where it says that"

No, it just says Boarding Time, not boarding time BEGINS.

What's the difference? Boarding begins (theoretically, ignoring FA union stipulations) at the time under "BRD TIME" and the plane departs at the time under "DEPARTS".

Because lots of kettles think they HAVE to board at the time listed or they will get left behind. This results in gate lice, as well as the panic in the 10-minute long security line because they only have 5 minutes until boarding starts (but 30 minutes until boarding ends).

Exactly. I couldn't tell you how many times we have a legal connection in ATL and people are running me over on the jetway going "I WAS SUPPOSED TO BOARD 10 MINUTES AGO!!!!"

Kettles tend to panic when flights arrive at the gate 10 minutes before their next flight begins to board. Emphasizing that the process only begins at the printed time (and continues for another 30-40+ minutes afterward) might avert some of that panic.

Also TSA.

Once in TSA line and lady in front of me has a stroller. Needs to get a few last things out and tells me to go ahead. I put my stuff on the belt walk to the scanner. Agent tells me that I can't just break in line. I explain that she told me she had to get something out of her stroller and told me to go ahead. She told me that she didn't care what the woman said. I simply said, "My bad, I was just trying to be efficient."

Her response was priceless. In a very loud voice she says, "Sir, being efficient is not one of the goals of the TSA!" Dude behind me said, "NO SH!T"

Whole place erupted in laughter.

Thread Alert

I hope nobody minds, but this topic is not exclusive to Delta Air Lines — unless “dumb comments” by airline passengers are never said on other airlines?

Anyway, please allow me to share this topic with everyone else on FlyerTalk by having the TravelBuzz! forum as its new home.

On an international flight back to Canada we were running 3 hours late--the standard announcement was made to all pax to stay in seats with belt fastened until pilot switches off seatbelt light and we are at the drawbridge...an absoulute rhinoceros of a woman and her hen pecked hubby would not wait and charged right to the front of the plane. When FA said it was against the rules she damned the entire airline and said they broke the rules first getting them there so late, and made in bluntly obvious nobody would be ordering her back to her seat (in Y) as obviously they were more important than anyone else and they only had 15 minutes to make their domestic connection (at YYZ).

Of course rhino woman forgot she had to clear immigration, get bag, clear customs all of which of course cannot be done in 15 minutes.

Saw rhino and hubby cooling their heels as we left the airport where she was picking up a hotel voucher for her overnight stay in Toronto--she would be flying out in the AM.

While not a comment made by a fellow airline passenger per se, I thought that this story which I posted almost eight years ago about the actions of a fellow airline passenger could be included in this thread:

The next day, while waiting for my flight from Albany to Atlanta, he showed up in the gate area in a rather smug manner — toting his briefcase, talking on his cellular phone, as if he were some big celebrity. Nobody (to my knowledge) recognized him or approached him at any time.

We boarded the flight, which was a regional jet. He sat in an aisle seat in the first row. I sat a few rows back in an aisle seat on the other side of the aisle.

While observing him reading, his finger embarked on a journey towards its apparent final destination: his nose. The finger must have had an intense and insatiable curiosity as to what was hidden inside of his nose because he started digging up there as if it were the Big Dig in Boston. All the while Jared was conspicuous and unashamed during his spontaneous treasure hunt. At least he could have tried to do it either privately or with a tissue or handkerchief!

I do not know if he ever struck gold that day as I could no longer watch, but I can say that every time I see a Subway commercial, I feel queasy because it always reminds me of him picking his nose.

If anyone ever does meet him, I would advise against shaking his hand for sanitary reasons.

This is some impression to give by someone who is supposed to be a compensated public spokesperson commercially endorsing a company whose primary business is to sell appetizing food.

That cracks me up!

I board a US PHL-PHX flight and I sit down in my exit-row seat. A male passenger comes in, puts his CANE in the overhead and sits down. The FA's see the cane and inform him that he cannot sit in the exit row. He gets quite pissed off and even says, "I can jump up and down if you want." The FA's stand firm and he is seated in another row.

Lo and behold, whom do I see later in PHX being escorted through the terminal on a cart for the HANDICAPPED????

I often try to lighten the mood with airline employees by deliberately asking joke questions. Here's one where I'm not sure I was pulling the reservations agent's leg or she thought she was pulling mine:

Me: "Why is the flight from SFO to IAD so much longer than the return?"

RA: "What do you mean?"

Me: "SFO-IAD takes 9 hours but IAD-SFO takes 3 hours. Why is one so much slower than the other?"

RA: "Oh, the plane takes a much longer route on the way to SFO, that's why."
