Flying Through NRT

I have a trip coming up in early May to PVG. My travel agent has advised me not to fly through NRT but to connect through ICN. Their main concern is radiation safety and the health of the passengers. Everything I have read suggests that Tokyo and the surrounding area is safe from radiation. My connection time in NRT would be about 2 hours each way. Has anybody had a similar experience or any recommendation about using NRT.

Everyone that flies through Japan glows for about a week.
Then it goes away.

Is your travel agent an expert on radiation?

Anyway, check out the above mentioned Japan forum.

You and your travel agent worry too much. I've been in Tokyo since the earthquake and subsequent incident at the Fukushima nuclear plant, and haven't been concerned about radiation exposure at all.

If the NRT connection is cheaper/more convenient/otherwise preferable to the ICN one, don't worry about imaginary health effects of radiation from Fukushima and go ahead and book your flights.

Your travel agent either doesn't know what they are talking about (most likely) or else gets a bigger commission from a Korean Airline than from a Japanese airline (?). In any case they have given you wrong information. NRT is completely safe.

That's kinda what I thought that everything was being blown out of proportion. Plus it is significantly cheaper to fly through NRT as opposed to ICN. Thanks!!

I'd also consider getting another travel agent. This is nonsense, plain and simple.

Just got back from a trip that took me through NRT on 4/4 & 4/15. RCC at NRT was jammed both legs. Less on the trip out and more on the way back. Both stops were the typical 2hrs, continuing on the BKK & ORD.

It should be OK, I think...
On my return last week, PVG-ORD, the flight path didn't change a bit, in fact, the cap even PAed " Now, look at your left, that's Tokyo!"

Unless you are planning to hike around the Fukushima and other nuclear plants, just relax, you'll be fine!

There are other reasons to avoid connecting at NRT, but an irrational fear of radiation is not amongst them.

If you're afraid of radiation, you should not fly at all. The (natural) radiation from space in high altitudes is by far higher then anything you would expect in NRT-airport during a connection (I am not talking about a trip to the Fukushima site).

just for example: http://www.sciencedaily.com/videos/2...ation_risk.htm
