Maybe you could go to the website of the airline on which you traveled and see what their policy is for damaged baggage.

Sorry to say, but probably nothing can be done by now.

Whenever you saw your checked bags get destroyed when they came out from the luggage belt, you must report immediately right at the baggage claim, so that it has the prove the airline damage them but not by you. Anything you took it home after 24 hours of landing, the airline can claim your bags were damaged by your own self.

Depends on the luggage brand. Many high end brands will repair or replace your bag no matter how it was destroyed.

There are thrills I enjoyed when I was younger. One was beating the parking or traffic tickets: waste a whole day going to the traffic court and sitting around, and feel clever because you "win" in the end. Another was buying cheap luggage and engaging in frustrating discussions with airlines about damages. Sometime they paid a little, sometimes not.

Eventually it dawned upon me that with that kind of winning, who needs defeats and losses? Now I avoid getting traffic tickets in the first place. And I travel with Red Oxx or Briggs & Riley luggage. Great quality, truly meaningful lifetime warranty.

Avoid expensive brands whose warranty talks big but somehow manages to exclude the actual damage to your luggage.

I would take it up with the airline. If you have baggage insurance on your credit card, I would follow up with that as well.

If it was the airline's responsibility, you should have followed up immediately after discovery with the airline staff.. or in a rush, at least touch base with the airline saying that you will follow up.

Eagle Creek

Eagle Creek is another one with a real life-time guarantee. They will either fix it or replace it (I have had both done to different suitcases). I stick with them for that reason.

I love Eagle Creek. I carry one of their ladies' handbags and it has lasted for years.

A clasp broke on one of their small wallets. They fixed it for free, no problem.

Airline before you leave baggage claim (IME I've had great sucess - including BA couriering me a brand new suitcase within 72 hours, same brand but actually a much nicer model than I had to begin with, plus mine was around 8 years old - and absolutely dreadful responses, like the company who gave me the forms, filled them in with me in the baggage hall etc etc. and then 3 weeks later wrote me a letter saying 'you filled in the wrong forms... oh and btw, the 7 day claim window is up, so tough luck' - fortunately my travel insurance fully covered me.

I would certainly add Red Oxx to the list. What they fail to offer is wheels. I don't mind but some may.

Agree on Travelpro, but as far as Red Oxx goes -

Red Oxx No Bull Warranty:
This product is guaranteed forever. Be sure to include it in your will.

Good enough for me.

That's funny.. It better be true, cause the false advertising law is tough on these companies.
