If this job is at an international airport, chances are you'll see a lot of smuggling. Some of your colleagues will likely be involved in organised conspiracies to import prohibited goods (mostly drugs) and you will see this in action. I'm sure you'll also work with a lot of honest, law-abiding people, but it's just another perspective to consider.

I don't even know what this means? Is this common knowledge? Have I been out of the loop for so long that everybody knows about this?

When a background check is done, how much does a "clean" record mean? How are these unscrupulous characters getting these jobs.

I had to admit to the person on the phone for the pre-interview that I had a speeding ticket in 1983. I thought that might matter. Silly me...

Well that will also depend on how much international flight volume the airport has. Some airports are 'international' but only has 1-2 international flights processed for immigration/customs daily.

Watch your back also.

That stuff will really take a toll ony our back. Your back will degenerate pretty quickly at a job like that, so be careful if you've already got back problems. If you really want to travel, how about flight attendant?

Here is just one example.

Definitely. An "international" airport with only a couple daily flights from small Canadian cities won't be a concern; a major hub with flights from the Caribbean will. If the OP is able to turn a blind eye to this, she may be all right.

That'll explain why the french simply "dump" off luggage, and avoid lifting at all cost.. similarly with other airports around the world.
