Nice thread. I'm sure I'll think of some more places as soon as I post this, but...
Just about any place I go with my wife; New Zealand, particularly the South Island, for the scenic beauty but also the wonderful people; Iguazu Falls--one of the the three most stunning scenic experiences I've ever had; The Grand Canyon--also on that most stunning list; The Annapurna trek in Nepal--the third one on the list; The Taj Mahal--the most stunning human-made sight I've ever seen; Paris and Venice, the two most romantic cities we've ever been to; French Polynesia (Moorea and Bora Bora), especially staying there on an over-the-water bungalow; Sydney and a small town called Port Fairy, Australia; Thailand (especially Khao Lak); Western Cape of South Africa, including Cape Town; San Pancho (aka San Francisco), Mexico, a small seaside village maybe an hour's drive from Puerto Vallarta...though perhaps it's become overdeveloped in the few years since we were there; London, though admittedly that's partly because I spent a year there as a student and it's the place that got me started on an international life and career; and The San Francisco Bay Area, where I live and which from the first time I visited here I've felt is one of the best places on earth. |

I'm going to work in two dimensions - place and time
Yemen in the early 2000s, though I don't think it would be as appealing in today's political climate. Moscow in 1979 (though I imagine it's changed quite a bit since my most recent visit, circa 1990) Bamako and Ouagadougou for music. I'd echo the positives of Iguazu Falls, though it's something less than my absolute top-tier favorite. Sudan, which someone mentioned, didn't have much appeal to me, nor did Somalia, for that matter. |
Paris will always be my favorite. I still get butterflies in my stomach on approach to CDG. Probably been there 20-25 times. I love to people watch and Paris always scores first place in the people-watching game. When we're there we always make a point of daily walking the entire length of the Champs Elysees, crossing the street, and then walking all the way back to the Arc de Triomphe.

well for me...it would be vegas.. from 1 to 10 :D

I'm split between Vegas, Paris and Hawaii.
Vegas - with the boys Paris - Honeymoon Hawaii - Romantic Getaway |
:)Historic Route 66 ; west out of Kingman, through the mountains, and on to the California line!

I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to the Palm Springs area back in late June. Despite it being somewhere between 103°-114° every day, it was very relaxing, and staying in a presidential suite sure did help.
One place I did not really enjoy (even as a young child) was Walt Disney World. Both times I went seemed exactly the same, even though the trips were spread seven years apart. I'm guessing Disneyland isn't much better. :( |

Maldives: Pictures can not do enough justice about how amazing this place is
Mykonos: I Love it here, nice beaches and a fun island London: I keep coming back here, my favorite city in the world and I live in NYC. |

Mykonos, ha I was stranded there for over a week about 15 years ago with a plane strike and a boat strike. It was quite an experience and all of us stranded got to know each other, very, very well. In fact I ended up traveling to South Africa, Sweeden, and Israel to visit people I met on that trip. Tough question because places are very different and I like them for different reasons. I think right now if I had to pick one place it would be Zanzibar. It is magical. It was a completely different experience than I was expecting and I planned a week or so there and I ended up staying 2 months. My single most favorite trip was in 1997 with my sister to Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique, and South Africa. Zimbabwe was the best part but I wouldn't want to be there now. I could go on and on. Oh I need a vacation! |

Oh Maldives is way up there on my list. I was in Sri Lanka and didn't make it to the Maldives but I want to do it with someone I love. It is not an adventure travel destination.

Palau remains at the top of my list. But then, I'm a scuba diver. ;) The Rock Islands are stunning topside, though, as well.

Tokyo (and Japan) is on top of my list! Been there twice. Love the country, the people, the food... everything... Been to both Hakodate in the north and Kyoto and Hiroshima further south, but Tokyo is the favorite. We are even planning on moving to Tokyo for a period!
I also love Barcelona, Seville and... London and UK. UK is like coming home for me as we lived there for a year. I visit London 4-5 times a year and I never get tired of that city. :) The most exotic place must have been Hawaii. :) Xxx. |
