I'm scratching my head to figure out the problem. If you have no money, you just put it on your credit card. Done. Solved. But of course I'm an American and there's no debtor's prison in America. I can't speak for the U.K. I did recently talk to an American who got a work permit and for some odd reason picked mangoes in Australia to raise money for his travels -- he stayed in Australia 6 years and apparently most if not all of the time it was somehow legal -- but "get a job" is probably not the advice you were looking for, you could have figured that much out on your own. He did warn me that there was some kind skin irritation you could get from picking mangoes? Another friend more recently earned money for several months stay in Australia by playing poker at I think Crown Casino but you'd already know if you were good enough to earn money playing poker. Probably anybody can pick a mango.

Cheapest way I can think of if you had to pay for a ticket would be Air Asia. Leave the luggage and pack a sandwich as food and baggage will cost you extra. Departing Melbourne to London (STN) is < AU$1000 for multiple dates next week.
