'missing' your flight on purpose?
Hey ya'll,
I'm flying Lufthansa from New York to Lisbon, and it has a 1 hour, 5 minute stop over in Munich. I tried to manipulate it to a free stop in Munch, to no avail. But I'd really like to stick around that afternoon, have a few beers, and then continue my journey. The connection is a semi-tight one, but I doubt the plane will be delayed. Its its not, what do you think the odds are of me being able to just wait it out in the bathroom, then emerge when its too late, claiming the first flight gave me food poisoning and I was out of commission? Or, better, the most honest route of just telling them i want a few hours and beg them to put me on the next flight?
Otherwise, I got what I think is a great fare, but we'll see if everyone agrees: NYC - LIS /// LBV - NYC for 1300. I'm pretty pleased!
Thanks!
Daniel.

Sure you can do that. But be prepared to stick around and have a few more beers than what you bargained for
Some things to consider:
1) As said by the previous poster, deliberately missing a leg will probably result in cancellation of your entire itinerary.
2) If your flight is on time (or slightly delayed) and the connection granted:
2a) other passengers who could be on the same route as you will most likely make the connection thus invalidating your argument;
2b) your luggage will most likely be transferred and this will cause even more trouble (i.e. they will be "looking for you", you will possibly delay the flight etc).
In short: not a good strategy. Have a beer on the plane and enjoy your trip

Daniel,
Don't try to deliberately miss the connection. 65 minutes is plenty in MUC and LH agents know that.
All you can do is hope that your NYC-MUC flight arrives late into MUC. If your flights leaves from JFK you stand a chance, because the main runway is closing for construction and delays are expected.
So plan to make the connection, and if the NYC-MUC is late consider yourself lucky, go get some meal vouchers from LH and spend them on beer.

Sounds fair! I probably wouldn't have had the guts to try and do it anyways, but I am really hoping that I'll get to stick around for a while. And I don't want to make anyone else wait. So, I guess I'll be making it to the flight after all! Thanks y'all.
