Dear l4pi

We are trying to contact you because the times have changed for our flight on February 24. We'll look in your reservation for a telephone number and try to reach you there too. Please review the information for new flight numbers, departure and arrival times (we've bolded the changes).

More constructive for a change. Congrats! ^

As I clearly stated I did get the notification some 6-8 hours after I called that said, just like others here have reported, "we've been trying to call you" (though no one ever did) and "we rebooked you on these flights."

Just a few things wrong with it: it came some 10+ hours after the flight was cancelled, and I was not rebooked automatically - I called in to do it (unless the rebooking is manual and takes many hours after a flight cancellation; but I would expect it to be at least semi-automated and even if manual faster for a flight cancelled <24 hours before depature, already after people have checked in - as most passengers won't check their flight status after checking in frequently).

My profile is fine and has two e-mails and two phone numbers on it. As I have reported here before, there was no problem for a wonderful SLC ticketing agent to call me back - two times - about reticketing a reservation after adding PU503s to it. Neither for DL CS to call me back (but then not honour their promise - but that's a whole other matter) re: an email I had sent back last summer. Also I always get all the DL marketing e-mails, always the "it's time to check in" right on the dot 24 hours before checkin, etc.

Here I checked the headers and that mail was not sent until some 6-8 hours after I called to rebook, likely some good 10 hours after flight was cancelled. I know that for a fact as the rebooked flight was the one I called and had a hard time arranging (only way I could make it back home the same day).

Is he really trying to prove that Delta does not notify ou when a flight is cancelled or significantly delayed? I think that is part of the problem here. It is easier to pile on instead of asking for answers....

That is exactly what I got (as I posted earlier a few times and said). As I said, some 6-8 hours after I called to rebook.

So let me ask you then: how many hours after a flight is cancelled do you get these? What about for a flight you have already checked into (if those are treated differently - one would think for those should be sent faster, but if anything, at least based on my experience it seems to be the opposite: check into flight, some 3-4 hours later flight cancelled, but the notice is only sent some ~10 hours later only after one called to rebook - not sure if would have been sent if I didn't notice the cancellation and didn't call to rebook).

Exactly, and that is what you are doing here. It's easier to make all sorts of wild accusations as opposed to read and base ones posts on the facts. Oh well, I guess that Delta just treats you like a king and spoils you. Good for you! :-::-::-:

I'm done. You appear to have an axe to grind so have at it. But for the record, this was your post......

Yes, does not notify based on another experience last year. Not just me but some ~200 other pax also. CPT-ATL cancelled due to Delta losing insurance on aircraft due to its poor maintenance history (or so the DL ground staff said - as they were all fired the next day they could tell the truth). Rebooked 24 hours later on same flight next day. Flight cancelled again the next day 24 hours later, but none of 200+ passanegers notified. Passengers make it to airport and try to check in and are told, "oh, the flight is not cancelled, it is going out, just you may not board - only the crew will be going back home." Calling Reservations is useless, as they say "flight is not cancelled, it's fine in the computer - just is indeed odd why no one is checked in" and no one except the local ground staff know that it is cancelled (in the sense that no pax may board).

So yes, I have been through 48 hours of Delta cancellations without notification (as have, in this one case, a good ~200 ohters) and have had a scheduled 32 hour flight home turned into 84+ hours long, and only got home due to help of SAA and putting us as "stowaways" (without a ticket or anything) onto a flight to LHR last two available seats.

No, they do not treat me like a king, but they call my cell and email me every time before a flight is cancelled or delayed significantly possibly causing an interruption. I guess this is because I live in the SE US as I read on the internet that Delta only takes care of their "Good ole Southern Boys" ....

Ok. I'll answer these...

Usually get a call or email within an hour of their decision....and usually they both come within minutes of each other. In one case I just happened to check on it via the website and showed all normal. Went to EF to check on F seats, came back and it showed canceled. Within 30 minutes I got the first notification. Honestly they came quicker when it was just the NE. The week it was truly effecting ATL it was about two hours. My guess the ATL CXL effected more people, thus the delay. No apparent difference in whether I have checked or not.

If it is really 6 to 8 hours for you, I would call.....

Now to bed....early day tomorrow

Oh, well that seems like a garden variety delay there....

As a ex-NW Plat, one of the few conspicuously good things about my dealings with DL are the notifications and automatic rebookings when flights are canceled, as well as irrops handling at the gate.

(Granted, it would be nice if the need for such notifications, rebookings didn't arise in the first place. I'm flying more DL RJs than I flew NW RJs, and I've had more good-weather RJ cancellations than I would like).

While some of the posts for this topic refer to DL flights is is quite clear that the subject matter applies to all carriers. Therefore I am moving this thread over to TravelBuzz.
