Nut allergies...
We were recently on a four-hour flight (not sure how relevant that bit is) when the FA made an announcement saying that as one of the PAX had a nut allergy they would be unable to serve nuts during the flight. As I am not a big fan this did not worry me unduly but I now wonder if this is a common occurrence?

I have never personally witnessed an announcement that no nuts would be served (due to an allergy on board). Therefore, I don't think it is a common occurrence.

I've heard this request several times on flights between Australia and Singapore/Bangkok. A little frustrating, but I guess I don't want to feel like I'd been the one to cause someone's bad allergic reaction if I did ignore it.

Some serious, non-rhetorical (that is not just trying to criticize nut-allergy policies) questions:
- Do people with nut allergies try to insure that the airplane they board will not have any leftover nut crumbs from previous passengers (we all know how thorough airplane cleaning can be)?
- Do people with nut allergies check to be sure there are no nuts present, and will be none pulled out by someone, before entering a restaurant, public bus, private tour bus, taxi, airport membership lounge (any of which may be enclosed and air-conditioned with recycled air) or any enclosed climate-controlled building?
- Do people with nut allergies demand nut-free policies in their work places?
